About Me
My name is Cassi Lowe. I’m originally from Indianapolis and have lived here my whole life. I grew up on the North side and graduated from North Central High School. While in high school I completed the 2 year Visual Communications vocational program through J. Everitt Light. This program prepared me for my classes at Purdue University. In 2006, I graduated with a B.A. in Visual Communications. I also earned a minor in Art History and was active in the AIGA student group.
While in school I was an intern with Purdue’s Agricultural Communications department. Most of my projects were for 4-H. I designed brochures, t-shirts, posters, workbooks, and other print media. Working for AgComm taught me to design within strict branding standards for the university while still using creativity. I had the opportunity to work along side other designers and with editors, printers, and other members of the department.
After college, I became the graphic designer for Zionsville Candle Company. This was a new company that was in need of candle labels, brochures, a web site, and other forms of marketing. I produced all of the marketing materials and even helped make the candles at times! One of our major endeavors was to market the business online. I learned a lot about search engine optimization and web design through this experience. It didn’t take long to get to the first page of Google for the term “Soy Candles.” It was exciting to see our Web traffic and sales increase over a short period of time.
After the business was sold to a couple in New York I helped start Queen Bee Marketing. I designed the logo and produced the marketing materials for the new business. Using our combined knowledge of direct marketing, internet marketing, and graphic and web design we started helping other local businesses market themselves on and offline. It’s still exciting to me to help a business succeed with marketing.
I was first attracted to graphic design because of the diversity of projects I could work on. One day I could be researching real estate and the next farming. Each project and client is unique and a new experience. However, the underlying principles of design and marketing can be applied to any industry.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, blogging, participating in social networks online, learning to play the guitar, going to concerts, playing video games, and reading. I’m also a member of the new Refresh Indy group.
